{{Somewhat}} Wordless Thursday!

Everyone has recovered from sickness and the warmer February/March weather has been much needed and very welcomed! We've done quite a bit since I posted last, so here's pretty much the entire month of February and the first few days of March in one post!

Charlie: 5 Months

Our little man is growing like a weed! I can't keep him in clothes that fit because he grows right out of them, he is hitting milestone after milestone and is literally probably the happiest baby we've seen. It's so hard to believe that a couple of months ago,  he was the most fussy baby we had ever been around. He still spits up quite a bit but is mostly due to reflux and it doesn't seem to be quite as painful for him. We're hoping that as he grows, his reflux continues to dissipate. We are really loving watching him grow and develop; he is changing so quickly!

Here's a little bit about Charlie this month:
  • He is wearing size 2 diapers and 9 month and 9-12 month clothes. His thighs are so chunky and he is really long!
  • His car seat carrier is getting super heavy and it's just about time to switch him to the convertible car seat. We're just trying to hold off as long as possible so we can get through winter and not have to bundle him in such thick outfits/coats/etc. Plus the carrier is just so convenient when he falls asleep (which happens often between preschool drop off and pickup, ballet, etc.)
  • He really loves watching Mellany and Johnny play and is most content when they are around.
  • He loves to be read to....mostly by Mellany
  • He still has no interest in a binky and hasn't even wanted it when going to sleep lately. He would much rather chew on his hands/fingers. Whenever we see that though, we pull his hands right out of his mouth and try to give him the binky.
  • His patience is very thin when he is hungry and wants his bottle.
  • His most favorite place to play right now is on the floor....he wants to be free!
  • He loves to "talk" to you and most often prefers to have conversation while you are changing his diaper.
  • Baths are becoming more enjoyable for him and he's even started splashing some. He isn't able to maintain his balance very well though so if you aren't holding him, he slides from side to side.
  • His legs and arms are super strong and he's recently found that he likes pulling mama's hair!
  • He fights his sleep...crying, screaming, throwing his body....and sometimes you're confused on wether or not he's actually tired or hungry again
  • He gets so excited when you walk over to him. He kicks his legs and gets the biggest smile on his face.
  • He loves to watch Mickey Mouse in his bouncy seat in the morning with Mellany and Johnny.

Sleeping:
Charlie is sleeping ok. He is still not sleeping through the night and sometimes doesn't even sleep very well through the day. I haven't had to wake him up during a daytime nap in weeks, and at night the longest stretch he's gone is 4 or 5 hours. I feel like he might be starting to prefer his bed over the swing (probably because that long body of his needs to be stretched out!) and our chest. He does prefer to lay on his belly still and I've noticed he likes to snuggle with a blanket.

Eating Habits/New Foods:
Still eating every 3 hours except for in the morning. In the morning, he will sometimes go 4 hours before eating. He most consistently drinks 4 ounces but has drank 6 a couple times. He is still getting 2T of oatmeal cereal in his formula for the reflux. He drinks the whole bottle and will then burp (the most grown man, stinky burp you've ever heard).

We did give Charlie a little taste of banana and he seemed to like it pretty well but we haven't really done anything else as far as eating solids and we will probably hold off until he turns 6 months. He does enjoy sitting at the table with us and seems extremely interested in food.

New Discoveries:
His feet! He loves to grab a hold of them and is so proud to show anyone who will look that he has grabbed his feet. He also really loves to chew on them. (I am always amazed when he can get those chunky legs up to his mouth!)

Accomplishments:
Rolling from back to belly! And now that he's done it, he rarely stays on his back and he moves all over the place. He's gradually gotten better in regards to spitting up while on his belly and it doesn't happen quite as often or in quite as large amounts. It is so sweet to watch him roll over because he is just so proud of himself!

Places:
Mellany & Johnny's preschool, Mellany's ballet, church, Meijer, Kids Club at the gym, doctor's office, McDonalds, the mall, Sam's Club, the bank and the library!!

Special Memories:
There's not really one specific memory that comes to mind this month, but more a collective memory. It is so special to see Charlie starting to interact with everyone. When John is holding Charlie, Mellany and Johnny on his lap reading a book, it just melts my heart. When Mellany is reading him a book or Johnny is talking to him about trucks and wheels, I can't help but smile. When Charlie is "talking" to them and the kids just start laughing and then Charlie starts laughing....there's just nothing like it!

5 Month Dr. Visit

Weight: 14# 11oz

This wasn't an official well check visit, but we were at the doctor's office about a week before his 5 month "birthday" for bronchiolitis. At that visit, they recorded what I feel is a pretty accurate weight for him. There wasn't a length or head circumference check so we will get those at his 6 month appointment in March.
