{Somewhat} Wordless Wednesday!

Well, I knew that I hadn't posted in a while, but didn't realize that it had been THIS long since my last post. The great thing is, though, that there isn't a whole lot to report from the Barrett house. Johnny is staying busy with work and really enjoying the current projects he is working on. I am staying busy with MOPS and going to the gym while Mellany is staying busy getting into everything that she can and growing way too fast for mama and daddy.

We really love the beginning of the year because we don't do a whole lot of traveling. While we do love to travel to see friends and family, we also love sticking around the house and enjoying the relaxation. Recently, we have been able to visit a home & builder's show and put in some shelving (my husband is AMAZING by the way!) in the basement. It has been nice to also just sit around the house and play with our new "toys" from Christmas, as a family.

Mellany is really starting to come into her own and she is just doing it so quickly. We just had her 15 month check-up (can you believe it?!) and she weighs in at a whopping 21 pounds and measures 31 1/4 inches long. (Which is 25% for weight and 78% for length.) She says multiple words (puppy, baby, daddy, mama, hi, bye-bye, nana, happy, daisy, moo....) and is walking so fast that she's darn near running. She has a total of 6 teeth and no longer drinks from the bottle. She does very well drinking from a sippy cup, but she refuses to drink milk from a sippy cup. Mellany has become quite the picky eater (wonder where she gets that?!?!) and won't even eat something if it doesn't look right. This can be quite frustrating at times for me, but hopefully it is temporary. She sleeps really great at night; falling asleep around 7 and sleeping till about 6 am. Her favorite friends are Mickey Mouse and Elmo and she still loves, loves, loves anything musical. She loves to dance, especially with daddy, and she's even started trying to climb. Sometimes, she likes to run around our kitchen island and just scream at the top of her longs and other times she would rather sit quietly and read a book. She loves putting her dirty clothes in the laundry basket and loves her bath time with daddy. She can follow simple commands very well (when she chooses to of course) for things like putting away her toys or coming to sit down or even "Where's Mickey? Let's go find him". It is amazing to watch her make connections with things in life and start putting it all together. I am constantly baffled by what she learns and how quickly she learns it. Often times, I don't give her enough credit. Raising a child and having a family is truly the best thing in life!

In the next couple of weekends we are hoping to get a new truck and finish off the basement shelving. We will be getting together with some of my MOPS mamas and spouses and I cannot WAIT to attend one of my best friend's baby shower.

Hope you are having a great week! :-)

Big girl bath....with bubbles even!

She loves the pig that her cousin Kaylee gave her at Christmas

Playing with the balls at Ballocity

Snuggling with her baby

One of her new "fun" things to do is dump things all over the floor. This time it was her craisins...(it was a mess for sure)

Helping mama vaccuum

...she didn't really "help" for long...

She wasn't sure what to think of the sunglassess

"cleaning" the door....she went into the bathroom and got the washrag to do it, all by herself

Playing "peek-a-boo"

It is kind of blurry, but she was laying down on the floor and Bo was right behind her watching her every move, as he always does.

One of her favorite places to play

For your viewing pleasure...

After returning from our holiday vacation, I captured a couple of pretty cute videos that I decided were post-worthy. :) Enjoy!

Mellany riding her new 4-Wheeler and checking out her new table and chairs

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I'm not really sure how to even begin this post.....I can't hardly describe how humbled and thankful we are for such amazing family and friends. We have had the absolute best holiday to date! We traveled to KC on the Friday before Christmas and didn't have to leave until the 30th! It was awesome!! Granted, it was still hectic and busy and included lots of driving but we were also able to spend days at a time with our parents and siblings and it was sooooo nice to be able to do that....to just rest and relax (on our vacation no less!) A few days out of the trip, we were able to visit with some friends and that was super nice to as we rarely get to see them. Mellany did happen to get an ear infection on Christmas Eve so we made a trip to my childhood doctor. While the circumstances weren't great (at all!--think screaming, crying child!) it was cool to have my childhood doctor (he actually delivered me!) meet & treat my little girl. She recovered from the infection rather quickly and she was back to her normal spunky self!

Mellany was starting to get the hang of opening presents and ripping the paper but because she spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day sick she didn't get to see Santa or really open all that many gifts. And boy, did that girl get some amazing gifts. From handmade items to riding toys and books and everything in-between.....she got some excellent gifts! (She's not spoiled or anything!) For me the most amazing thing about this holiday was to watch her interact with our families. That girl is SO loved and it is awesome to see how much she loves them too.

All in all, we were sad to leave our family & friends, but it was oh so nice to be home! We spent New Year's Eve and New Year's Day unpacking, un-boxing and assembling all of our Christmas goodies! Johnny's first day back to work was today and it was hard to see him leave this morning. It has been so nice having him around and I know that Mellany has enjoyed it too! For now, it is back to the daily routine. We don't plan on making a trip to KC until May for my cousin's graduation. In-between now and then, I'll be making a trip to Maryville, MO for a baby shower and we will all be traveling to Columbia, MO to buy a new truck! While we have a few exciting things happening in the next 6 months or so, it will be nice to hang around Kearney and enjoy being at home! :)

She's officially a "big girl"....she's facing FORWARD! She absolutely LOVED it!

KC here we come!

Mellany with her free balloon from the doctor's office. These balloons aren't given out anymore but Dr. Fish said he had a secret stash for his "old" patients :) I used to get these balloons as a kid and loved them too!

Mellany's new 4-wheeler....we weren't sure about this one because Mellany is pretty "reserved" and easily intimidated by things of this nature but she got on it the first time and pushed that button like she had rode it a million times.....her face is priceless!

We hope that everyone had as great of a holiday as we did! We are so excited to see what 2013 will bring!
