Mr. & Mrs. Hook

We were in KC this past weekend celebrating my cousin Amanda's wedding! It was a great trip! Mellany is becoming quite the world traveller and does so, wonderfully! The majority of the way she sleeps and the only time she becomes upset is when she is hungry. That makes the 6 hour drive much more enjoyable! Bo didn't make the trip this time since it was such a short trip; and it actually made it much easier to tend to Mellany in the back when needed.

As to the wedding, Amanda was a beautiful bride and Nathan (her new husband) was all smiles. They had the most amazing unity ceremony I have seen and the church was just perfect! We had a really great time with family and friends that we don't get to see very often (and those that we do). The wedding was so much fun and we hated to see it end. Congrats to Amanda & Nathan (& their baby girl Chloe)!!

The next time we head to KC will be on the 23rd for Christmas! We're really excited about spending a week there and soaking up some serious family time. Johnny and I plan to go out on a date night again and we are so looking forward to that. Until then, we are relaxing as much as we can and watching Mellany's daily developments. It really doesn't get much better than this! We are truly, truly blessed!

2 Month Well Baby Exam

Mellany's 2 month well baby exam was this past Wednesday and it went great! Minus the fact that it was a 2 hour appointment and we received no explanation as to why the doctor was an hour behind (we were her first appt!), it really couldn't have gone much better. Mellany has grown to 9lbs 13 oz and 22.5 in long which is petite but measuring great! She received her first round of immunizations which of course wasn't the most pleasant thing, but she was a champ, only crying for a few minutes. (The nurse said that mom and dad did really great too lol) Mellany did bleed through her band-aids on one leg but other than that she was just a little sore......nothing that some medicine couldn't help with. She was a little fussier than normal a few days after the injections but I figured that was just because of the leg soreness where her shots were given. She also got a rash (red spots) on her bottom afterwards which could mean one of 2 things.....she coincidentally got diaper rash right after her shots (we've been going back and forth between cloth and disposable with traveling and such) or she had a reaction to one of the injections. We plan to watch for this the next time and see if it develops again.

It is very bittersweet to see our baby grow but we are really loving every minute of her development! We go back to the doctor in February for another round of immunizations. Here's to hoping that the doctor is on time and the injections go just as smooth!

Just a couple of shots I took before the dr came in....poor little lady had no idea what was coming!

Grandma Elaine's Visit (October)

Grandma Elaine came to visit in October and I realized I never posted the pictures from her visit....so, here they are.....better late than never right?!

Deep thought...

2 Months!

I'm not really sure where the time is going but I do know it is going fast. Mellany is now 2 months old and my how she has changed. I think that the biggest change so far is that she is starting to interact more with Johnny and I. She is starting the "talking" process" and it is so exciting to watch. When we talk to her she smiles big and makes an "o" or "ah" sound.....it just makes us melt! Her cries are becoming very distinct, so it makes it easy for her mom and dad to figure out exactly what she wants. She's also learned how to make some facial expressions more consistently, like smiling, and it is just so sweet. (Though she's not quite smiling as a reaction/on purpose yet--I'm sure that will come in month 3.)

We reached a HUGE milestone this month and went from sleeping in the magic chair to sleeping in the cradle, to sleeping in her crib in her own room! This was very exciting for us and Mellany seems to like it. Although, I have to admit that the video baby monitor is always on and right next to momma so that when I wake up during random times in the night, I can still see everything. :-)

She is constantly moving her arms and we think she is somewhere around 9lbs and 21ish inches long. We go to the doctor for her first round of vaccinations on the 7th and neither of us are really looking forward to that, but we do feel that vaccinations "fit" this family. Mellany is definitely more awake during the day and we've started to add in tummy time which she kinda likes. (Minus the fact that each time she's been on her tummy, she spits up.) She took her first road trip during her 2nd month to KC for Thanksgiving; it's only the first of many so we are thankful it went very well. She has gone back to her love of being swaddled. Dad is much better at this than mom....I still need some practice. Slowly but surely she is outgrowing her newborn outfits and fitting into 0-3 month clothes. It is sad for this momma but a GREAT thing and it seems as though she is right on track with her wardrobe......it's also nice to have a change of pace when it comes to clothing. Her favorite outfits right now are sleepers with feet in them and she is really loving her accessories. (This lady is ALLLLL girl!)

I think we might have finally found a good formula (maybe) even though it is a fussy and gassy formula that doesn't really seem to take care of the gas. (We heart gas drops!) It is finally staying down most of the time with very little spit up and no vomiting (knock on wood). She's taking in 3 oz at each feeding, sometimes 4 and doesn't need to be burped but once or twice now.

Cloth Diapers: We absolutely love the cloth diapers. They are so good on her bottom and are so much cheaper! But, M doesn't seem to like them as well. For the 2 straight weeks we had them on her, she didn't want to sit up, got extremely angry when we tried to burp her, would spit up & vomit often and was just fussy in general. We assumed that maybe she was just too petite for them and that we would wait until she got a little bigger to put them back on her. Well, after trying a few times this past weekend, its still not working and she still doesn't like them that well. I will continue to try putting them on her, but it looks like we may need to make a trip to the store where we bought them to see what I'm doing wrong.

Mellany welcomed another friend, Anderson, to the world on December 3! This little girl has so many great friends already that are right around her age and it will be so exciting to watch them all grow up together!

Bo has become more "relaxed" around Mellany, allowing her to cry for a while longer before he gets up to go to her. He still follows me around constantly whenever I have her in my arms (lays right next to me while I change her diaper, sits right next to me while I feed her, and just follows me all over the house wherever I take her). It is so sweet, but as you can imagine, I have to be very careful so I don't trip over him!

And last but not least, Mellany experienced her first snowfall! Even though she experienced it from the inside of the house, I think it is most definitely note-worthy.

While it is hard to take in that our baby is getting older each day, we are very excited about the things to come in her 3rd month. She's going to experience her first Christmas and New Year's as well as continue her growth and development. Stay tuned for month 3!

I'm 2 months old!

The photo session wouldn't be complete without some tears.....

....and thank goodness daddy was here to save the day! (This is her favorite way to snuggle with dad.)
