{{Somewhat}} Wordless Wednesday!

Christmas is almost here!!!! Things are getting very exciting around here as we gear up for another trip to KC and a visit from Santa himself!!

We have a new friend in the house: "Pinky" the elf! He goes to the north pole every night and then finds a new place to sit in the house during the day. He watches over everyone to see how they are behaving and reports back to Santa each night. (Though, he's mainly just here for some "Christmas Spirit" rather than behavior management.) You cannot touch him or he will lose his magic. Mellany LOVES having Pinky around. She picked out his name and looks for him first thing every morning. She will tell him random things, show him random things and even tells him "good-bye" when we leave. It is just adorable. He usually sits pretty high so Mellany doesn't get tempted to touch him....which I think is a pretty smart idea because he would probably lose his magic rather quickly. Pinky even brought Mellany (& Johnny) the "Elf on the Shelf" movie, some skittles and a princess cup, which were all a huge hit. We spent some time writing a letter to Santa one evening and then sat it right next to where Pinky was sitting so he could take it to the North Pole on his visit that night. Mellany was stunned when she woke up the next morning and the letter was gone. Her letter read something to the effect of "Dear Santa, I have been a very good girl this year. I will be at Nana's house on Christmas Eve and I would like to have Elsa presents and Rapunzel jammies. I will leave milk and cookies for you and food for the reindeer. Love, Mellany." She then put the letter in an envelope complete with princess stickers on the outside. Christmas is such a magical time through the eyes of a toddler! Of course, we've also been talking about how it is Jesus' Birthday and the true meaning of the holiday.

Our baby boy is getting so big!

We got a few gifts from Anderson T in the mail and we just couldn't stand to see these gifts sitting unopened under the tree....so we opened a few of them. :) Mellany was in heaven!!

Gymnastics: She is getting more and more brave....she is walking on the balance beam all by herself!!! This is HUGE!!! (Black leotard right under the stars of the American flag).

His face while I blow dry my hair....

Lauren and Mellany doing what they do best....as soon as these girls meet up to play, the dress up clothes come out

Some mommy and baby time!

Mellany has come such a long way in loving her brother. When we first brought him home, she really didn't want much to do with him....and now, she (on her own) goes over to him with some toys and starts playing...showing him how the toys work....I could have cried!

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!!

Jump Start Jr. Christmas Program

Mellany's very first preschool program was Friday December 12. We were really, really nervous that she would not want to go on stage and perform with her class. So, we practiced and constantly talked about the program and what would happen and sure enough, it WORKED! She walked right onto that stage and started waving at everyone in the crowd. She smiled and sang her little heart out.....she was definitely "at home"! We couldn't have been more proud of her. After her class performed, they came back to the parents and sat for the remainder of the program. There were cookies served at the very end which also gave us some time to visit with some of her friends. It was such a great night!

A little video of some practicing

All ready to go!

Mellany's class sang: "ABC's", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" & "Jingle Bells"

Johnny did a great job as well! If you hadn't seen him, you wouldn't have even known he was there!

Thanksgiving....Barrett Style!

It may be two weeks later, but it's better late than never right?! It's taken a while to "recover" from our time in Kansas City and play catch up but I think it is safe to say, all is back to normal. We've readjusted to the time change and sleep schedules and routines have commenced.

The trip really couldn't have gone better with a 3 year old and a 5 1/2 month old. The drive took about 10 hours instead of 8 (as to be expected) and both kiddos were FANTASTIC!!! They were really well behaved children each and every day of our vacation and couldn't have behaved better at each dinner we attended. John and I were SO proud of them!

Here is our Thanksgiving trip in pictures:
