Our little man has reached the halfway point to his first birthday!!!! He is changing so quickly that I can't even keep up with what he's doing.
Here's a little bit about our sweet baby this month:
- He is holding his head up full time
- He is still the happiest baby we have ever seen. Smiles ALL the time, laughs constantly....makes you feel like a million bucks!
- The little guy is growing out of his clothes so quickly! Right at his 6 month birthday, he is wearing 9 month jammies and 6/9 & 9 month shirt and pant sets. I imagine he will be in 9-12 and 12 month clothes before we know it!
- The love he has for his sister is stronger than ever! He really loves when she plays with him, shows him things, talks to him or just even comes near him. I can only hope it stays like this forever!
- He has started reaching for the mobile on his swing.
- He is constantly gnawing on his hands, toys, blankets, etc.....we fully expect to see a tooth at any time.
- His feet are always at his mouth.
- Bath time has become more fun for him. He is actually looking around and enjoying the water versus crying the whole time
- Some of his favorite places to be are in the swing and bouncy seat
Sleeping:
Still a great sleeper! He will take two or three naps during the day and sleep all through the night (from about 9:00-7:00). We haven't quite established a set routine with him yet, but it is coming.
Eating Habits/New Foods:
While he still drinks 6 oz bottles every 3 hours with cereal add in for reflux, he has gotten to try bananas! (We are hoping to skip pureed baby food all together and try baby-led weaning. Our doctor suggested it and we really like the idea of it.) Because of his milk protein allergy, we had decided to hold off on solid foods until 6 months. He really loved the bananas and I'm excited for him to try many more foods. He is still somewhat burpy and spits up, but not near as bad as it has been in the past. I am very hopeful that most of that is behind us.
Books!! The little guy absolutely LOVES to read with us. He loves the pictures, he loves when you actually read the book and he gets SO excited about it. We could read to him all day every day and he would be completely fine with that.
Accomplishments:
Sitting up with assistance-He still needs some support but he is really starting to master the idea. Within the next month or so he will definitely be sitting on his own
Places:
Kids Club at the gym, Mellany's preschool, MOPS, the Mall to play and do some shopping and Kansas City for his first Thanksgiving. The day after we arrived in Kansas City, we had to take him to Children's Mercy Urgent Care because we thought he had an ear infection. Turns out he had some fluid in his ear which was causing some discomfort. Once we got the prescription drops in his ears, he was back to normal and the celebrations continued.
Special Memories:
Spending Halloween and Thanksgiving with him for sure! He was so good at halloween....he just let us dress him up like it was no big deal and then hung out while the chaos ensued. Thanksgiving was our first major holiday as a family of four traveling to KC and it was long, but it was a blast. He is really such a great little traveller and does so well going from place to place and letting others hold him. He got to meet my Grandma Jones for the first time which was also really special for all of us.
6 Month Dr. Appointment
Weight: 14# 5oz
Length: 26 inches
Dr. Fahler was very pleased with Johnny's progress (his weight gain in particular) and this was probably the easiest dr appointment we have had to date! He checked Johnny over, discussed eating habits and introducing food, developmental skills and what to expect in the coming months. The nurse gave him his immunizations (which he took like a champ) and we were out the door. (HUGE sigh of relief for this mama to have such a smooth appointment!!)
