January/February...

My goodness, I knew it had been a while since I had updated the blog, but I really didn't think it had been over a month! That just truly shows that we are living it up over here! :) We've hit a pretty sweet spot in life right now....the kids are at such a fun age and we've got just enough activities, with plenty of family/down time mixed in...John is continuing to work on the bathroom remodel and we've even had a few warmer days where the kids have been able to play outside! Oh....and our KC CHIEFS ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!! We are really missing KC right about now!

Charlie's basketball season started and he is so enjoying it! He even scored his first two baskets a few weeks ago and has really improved on his dribbling! The picture on the right shows just how happy he is to be playing with his bestie....they were flexing...

Mellany had her dance team preview (basically a competition season dress rehearsal) and the makeup always gets me....I literally just kept looking at her and thinking, my sweet baby girl just really isn't a baby anymore...

Winston keeping guard...he really loves this spot!

"Mom, can you take my picture in the back up camera?!" lol...crazy kids!

I'm always finding selfies on my phone from Charlie...

Mellany's dance team had the amazing opportunity of dancing during halftime of a women's Purdue game in January.....the team had been prepping since November and she was soooo pumped!! My dad and Teresa were able to come into town for the performance and many other friends were able to witness it as well! It was definitely something we won't ever forget and it actually brought tears to my eyes. I was just so proud of her and all the hard work she has put in.....and to have some family there and friends that are like family, in a place where we moved not knowing a single person, it just made my heart so happy!

Purdue Pete came and sat right in front of us! (Dad was literally the only one in the arena wearing red lol! Mellany said she actually spotted him!)

This performance included two of the teams from her studio....they did fantastic!

Us girls walked out a different door from the boys...so we took the opportunity to grab some pictures outside of the building too.

Winston loves hanging out in the kids rooms while they read and get ready for bed.

Charlie's class celebrated the 100th day of school by wearing shirts that they made or picked out with 100 items on them. Charlie wanted a shirt with 100 t-rex/dinosaur pictures on it. I'm not super crafty, but lots of people on etsy are so that's the route that we went and he loved it!

After the 100th day, we got a snow day!!! We pretty much knew it was coming and we were so excited!! It was the most perfect snow, great for building and sledding, but it wasn't super freezing cold to play in....it was awesome!

The view out our bedroom window was incredible!

Johnny was the first one to come in....he requested some hot chocolate and iPad time....I love when I can be the "yes"mom!

While the kids enjoyed the snow, I did some cooking....muffins, banana bread and breakfast burritos. While helping Johnny get his stuff off and laid out to dry, Winston took full advantage of a burrito. I was so frustrated at him, but you can tell he feels bad about it so I wasn't frustrated for long....lol

Once all the kids were done playing outside, they wanted to decorate some sugar cookies

Friday night movie nights are one of our favorite winter activities!

John finally got to a point in the bathroom remodel that it was time to fix our living room ceiling! It looks so amazing, you can't even tell that there was once a hole there...I'm so thankful for our handy man!

During the AFC championship, Winston was not impressed with our excitement level :)

A little bit after taking this picture, I thought our cheering had gotten a little too loud because I heard footsteps upstairs. Turns out that Johnny threw up all over his bed....and the poor guy vomited every 30 minutes from around 9:30 Sunday night till 4:30 Monday morning....it was awful....and exhausting....and his stomach muscles hurt so bad for days afterward. But, his buddy Winston was right by his side! Johnny spiked a fever after the vomiting and actually ended up missing an entire week of school. Nobody else ended up with it though, thankfully. Charlie, did test positive for strep earlier that same Sunday morning, so he was actually out of school for a few days also! I'm hoping all the sickness is behind us at this point!!

After the Chiefs won the AFC championship, and we knew we were in the Super Bowl, I decided to stop into party city to see what they might have. Sure enough, they were loaded with Chiefs gear and I may have gone a bit overboard!!! You just never see anything Chiefs in Colts territory and it made me so happy!

Charlie headed back to school!!

Took this girl into the doctor for a wart to get removed and when they measured her height, she measured at 5'5"....officially taller than me....I still can't believe it...shes only 11!!!!! And my goodness she's so beautiful!

After missing a week of school, then going back for two days, Johnny said his throat and belly started hurting....so back to the doctor we go, because I thought for sure he had strep. Strep test came back negative so we gave him some cough drops and determined his belly might still be hurting/sore from vomiting so much....and back to school he went.

While in the doctor's office, he jumped at the chance to sit on the spinning chair in his favorite transformer room.  It reminded me of when my brother and I were younger and how we used to love that chair too, and we would totally fight over it.....Johnny didn't have to fight with anyone over sitting in the chair on this day and he was one happy boy.

We picked up our neighbor Maddie on a random Wednesday and it made everyone so happy!

BGI (Battle Ground Intermediate-which is 4th and 5th grades) "Battle of the Books" was the first week of February and Mellany's team did a great job!! They were frustrated with a few technicalities but they still did so good. It was so amazing to see all the kids in this room competing over knowledge of books they had read. I love that our school provides this opportunity, especially for kids who might not be into sports....definitely a happy day!

All the kids in Mellany's class who competed.

Saturday morning snuggles make it hard to get out of bed

Mellany's friends (who are twins) had their birthday party this past weekend and they ventured to our new local indoor theme park. They had a blast and Mellany is dying to take her brothers!

See what I mean....always a selfie of Charlie!

Super Bowl Party!!!!
We invited a few friends and neighbor friends over to help us celebrate and the Chiefs pulled out the WIN!!!! Everyone ended up leaving at halftime...(because young kids will do that to you) so it was just John and I at the end of the game and it was so exciting!!! It was a little too close for comfort but we are still on cloud 9 and wishing we were back home!

I got to the elementary school a little early for pickup one afternoon and spotted my favorite Chiefs fan 2nd grader playing Star Wars with his buddy....

Whew!! I really need to stay more on top of these updates, because that was a lot!! But other than the sicknesses, it was a whole lot of fun! And we've got a lot of fun things planned that we are looking forward to! Now, just as long as the warmer weather continues, we will be good!

Happy Thursday!!
How bout those CCHHHHIIIIEEEEEFFFFFFFSSSSSS!!!!!!

Christmas Vacation 2022!!

While most of our vacation was so fun and magical, the second half didn't go as planned. We were able to spend time with John's family for several days and then a couple days with my mom.....but the day after Christmas, Johnny and I both woke up with fevers, aches, chills and sore throats. So, we missed out on seeing my dad and that side of the family. John was able to get Johnny into urgent care and was told it was just a virus, so I didn't even make an appointment. After discussing all our options, we decided just to head back home a few days early and battle the virus from there. (Since we weren't going to be able to see anyone anyway....because by the time we would be fever free 24 hours, it would be time for us to come home anyway.) It was really sad and there were lots of tears, but on the 27th we headed home (with Charlie now coughing too...). Mellany stayed with my mom because mom was planning to come back out to IN with us for New Year's anyway; so this was a great opportunity for them to spend some special time together (and Mellany got to hang out with the Jones cousins one more time!)

My dad and Teresa are coming out a bit later this month so we really don't have to wait long to see them, though we are still missing the rest of the family.

Thankfully the virus never got a hold of John, but it did get Mellany and she ended up at Urgent Care after getting back home....she had quite the sore throat. Charlie's cough was gone just as soon as it came.

A few days after New Years and we were thankfully all back to normal! This vacation is definitely one to remember!

The first part of our trip with the Barrett/McNeely crew!
Mellany is loving having another girl on this side of the family. Quinn is just the cutest!

Mel had a lot of find making John carry her koala....she would randomly hide it somewhere on him. :) John was obviously thrilled!

With the downtime, I was able to finish some bookmarks I started working on earlier in the month with my friends.

The kids loved decorating gingerbread houses....

So many snuggles!!

Santa dropped off Christmas Eve boxes again this year!

The dads were living their best life on Christmas Eve...

We ordered some fun shirts instead of pajamas this year and they were so funny!

The kids each got a "Comfy" in their santa box and loved them!

Reindeer food!!! (It was BITTER cold for Christmas this year)

Santa came!!!!! iPads were the request this year and Santa delivered!!!!

Christmas day we headed to Gammy's!!!

Gammy always has a game planned...

After Christmas day, we got sick and then decided to head home. Once Gammy and Mellany got back in town, I still wasn't feeling super great but the rest of the crew headed to the movies to see Puss N Boots.

And we actually made it to midnight on New Years Eve!!!! The kids thought it was so fun to watch the ball drop! Winston wasn't a huge fan of the hat...

Mom went back home on New Year's Day and in those few days between New Years and school starting back up, there were lots of snuggles and relaxation.....and of course light saber battles. :)

It wasn't how we planned or wanted it to go, but we still made some fun memories for sure. Here's to an amazing 2023!!!
