Kentucky Derby, Girls KC Trip, Camp T Field Trip!

In my last post I talked about how I hoped things would slow down a bit .....they haven't! In fact, I think we might be even more busy now than we were then! A couple of trips, lots of end of school year activities and events as well as sports/activities for each kiddo are sure keeping us out and about this spring. I love to get out and do things, but I'm ready for some down time at home! Here are some pictures of all the things we've been doing!

One thing John and I had been looking forward to for almost a year was the Kentucky Derby! We booked the trip with Andy and Amy last summer and could not wait for it to come! We had a blast and I would love to do it again! We had never experienced anything like it before.....the people watching was fantastic, the atmosphere was electric, the outfits were so fun, the weather was perfect, our seats were incredible and while we didn't come back winning, we had so much fun trying!

We attended both days: Friday Kentucky Oaks and Saturday Derby Day.

Most of our bets we placed through an app on our phone. But for the actual derby race, we bet at the wagering window. We all put in money for each horse to win, then threw all the horses in a hat and drew our of it for each individual person's bet. Amy got the winning horse! It was such a fun way to bet the race....one of us was guaranteed to win!

Cheesecake on a stick and the dessert kabobs were everyones favorite!

The red carpet entrance where our friend Pat Mahomes walked through.

Right after the derby race, the rain clouds started rolling through and eventually it started pouring! Thankfully our seats were covered, and we even got a pretty rainbow!

Meanwhile at home, Gammy and the kids were making puppy chow to snack on during the race

After spending two days at the races, we set out to tour the Louisville Slugger Museum, eat at the Jim Beam restaurant and shop at the Churchill Downs Store for 1/2 price merch....

While we were at the races, Charlie got to take part in a reading lunch for being the top reader in his class! He LOVED being with the big kids and having a special lunch!

We eventually made our way home and while coming home from Johnny's baseball game, we got sideswiped. Thankfully no one was hurt, but my car has some pretty significant damage and has now been non-drivable for two weeks....which is really just annoying!

A few days later, Mellany and I traveled to KC for a quick trip to celebrate Baby F! The grandmas hosted the shower and it was such a fun time to be together! We also got to celebrate Delaney's graduation and even spend some time with Nana and hand deliver flowers for Mother's Day! Even with it being a quick trip, we sure packed in some fun!

While the girls were in KC, the boys were at the gun show. Charlie REALLY wanted to see a rocket launcher and sure enough, it was the first thing they saw when walking in. The owner even let the boys hold it.

And then there was field day....I only got to see the boys in passing, but I got to lead Mellany's class in an obstacle course. It's so hard to believe this is her last ever Field Day....

Johnny's teacher did post a class pic...Johnny is in the middle/left with a black hoodie holding a sign in each hand.

After field day, I took Mellany to dance tryout practice and then took Charlie to the urgent care for pink eye. Johnny had it first and was so kind to share it with Charlie....who ended up getting it in both eyes ....

Johnny finally got to show Simon his chickens!

Mellany's last elementary field trip was to Camp Tecumseh! They got to take part in all kinds of outdoor activities and it was such a beautiful day for it!

We also found out that Mellany made the middle school dance team!!!!! She is beyond excited and we couldn't be more proud of her! She has worked so hard all of these years doing what she loves and truly earned her spot on the team. We can't wait to see what this year holds for her.

These boys just love the chickens!

John is almost finished with the chicken coop.....it is literally the nicest chicken coop I have ever seen! My husband is quite the craftsman!!

"I wanna get on your back and take a picture mom!" :)

I couldn't resist documenting my irises this year.....they seriously look the best ever!!

It's hard to see, but we spotted a mama deer and her baby on the way to the school bus this morning! This is why I love our neighborhood so much!

Here's to ending the school year strong and living our best lives in summer!!!
Happy Monday!!!!
