It's our favorite time of year and our schedule proves it! Since the middle of May, we've had a completely full calendar that finally starts slowing down this week! We love everything that's happening (especially with not having homework, early bedtimes, etc!!), but it is definitely time for some summertime boredom!
Here are all the fun things we've been up to so far this summer!
Lots and lots and LOTS of baseball!! At this particular game, it was Johnny's game and they played in the pouring rain! The boys thought it was pretty fun, I didn't care so much for it! ha!
After the rainy baseball game, Johnny came straight home and out to his chickens.
Before school got out, Johnny and Charlie passed strep back and forth to each other......Johnny got it first, passed it to Charlie and then Charlie gave it right back to Johnny. We couldn't believe it! I don't care to ever go through that again!
Our chicks hatched and after about 24 hours, went out to the bruder in the garage. They were so cute!
Mellany and Charlotte have been taking some extra dance lessons to work on their skills for the team this year.
After dance lessons, Mellany decided to help John and got some tractor operating lessons.
The boys have really enjoyed riding the 4wheeler we bought from the neighbor. Johnny helping Charlie put on the helmet was just too sweet of a moment to not get a picture of.
I've been walking outside a ton since the weather has gotten nice and the sunrises are the best! It's so peaceful to be out early in the morning when things are still quiet.
Chicks are growing!!....
Johnny at 3rd base down and ready.....
.....Then at bat! He has yet to hit anything yet this season (which has been super discouraging for him) but he's got a couple more games to get a shot and I'm hopeful for at least one hit!! This baseball season has been a bit of a struggle season for him and I think he's realizing that baseball isn't his "activity". He doesn't love it and at the 10U age, you really need to love and enjoy it to play it. Kid pitch is just hard and when you're mainly there to be with your buddies and to be a good teammate, it just isn't super enjoyable. Nevertheless, we are so proud of him for continuing to show up and play, even when he doesn't want to.
At the end of May, John and I headed to Naples, FL for a wedding! We had such a great time!! The weather was hot but the food was great, the wedding was such a great celebration and you just can't be sad/disappointed at the beach!
We dropped Mellany off at the bus stop before heading to the aiport.....had to take our usual peace selfie....
And we're off!
Our first stop was a Barrett Family Favorite: Doc's Beach House! Amazing food, hole in the wall place, right on the beach.....it did not disappoint!
Days 1 and 2 were spent at Lowdermilk Park (with the Okoses on the second day but somehow I have zero pics of that!): a beach with concession stand.....it was perfect!
Wedding Day!
We've been so blessed with an amazing group of friends in West Lafayette!
Our last day in Naples, we decided to go on an airboat tour. We didn't spot any gators, but we still had a great time in the everglades on the boat.
Meanwhile back home, mom was holding down the fort for us and taking care of the kiddos! I'm pretty sure nobody missed us :)
So proud of these three and their amazing accomplishments this year! They all worked extremely hard and it definitely paid off!
Gammy got to be at Mellany's award assembly!
Just Johnny sitting in a lawn chair (under the barn door) tending to his chickens.... such an old soul...
Puppy chow is a must-do activity when Gammy is in town
Mary Lou Donuts for breakfast!
And a movie!!!
After John and I got back, it was strawberry picking/jam making time!!!
They started off picking berries really well....
Another of our favorites got married right after we returned from Naples! Two weddings within a week of each other.....you know I was in heaven! It was a beautiful wedding and we are so, so happy for our Hallie!!! (Hallie has been watching our kiddos, house sitting and just spending time with our family for probably a good 8 years now and we just love her so much!!) We can't wait to see what the future holds for her and Liam!
Just hanging with his chicks in the garage....they are growing way faster than I remember the other chickens growing...
Both Mellany and Johnny decided to go to overnight 4H Camp this year. I knew Mellany would do well for the 3 days because she had stayed at overnight camp before, but I was super worried about Johnny and how he would do. Turns out, he loved it and is ready to stay for a longer amount of time at Camp Tecumseh!
After I dropped Mellany and Johnny off, it was just Charlie and I. (John was even gone until the next day.)

When we got back home, we realized Johnny left his stuffed dog, Douglas, so Charlie was sure to take good care of it.
The first day of Charlie being an only child, he chose to play video games on Johnny's playstation5 and go swimming. We had so much fun!
Once Mellany and Johnny came home, they were complete zombies for two days. I don't think they slept at all while they were at camp....
Next up in the summer fun was VBS! It was a great week where Mellany and I volunteered and the boys got to attend. It's one of our summer favorites for sure!
Mellany has been working really hard on her 4H sewing project and is pretty close to being finished. She picked such cute pieces and has really enjoyed the sewing process. We can't wait to see the final product.
On father's day weekend we spent a few hours at the movie theater watching Inside Out 2. Inside Out is one of our favorite family movies so we couldn't wait to see the second! It was super cute and one we will definitely watch again, but we all agreed, we still liked the first best!
After the movies, we headed out to the Okos house to help take care of their pigs while they were on vacation.
Father's Day was spent playing some baseball.....
....and taking care of the pigs another night...
Later in the week as I was headed out to the chicken coop, John noticed a fawn bedded down in the shade. It was so stinking cute! As soon as I got too close though, it bolted.
My gladiolus are blooming and look so good!!! I planted them from bulbs two years ago and have really enjoyed them.
And lastly, Johnny mowed the entire back yard today! I can't believe how much he's growing up and that he is actually old enough to mow the yard......
