5 Months!

Like I've said in my previous 4 posts, I really wish time would slow down. Just as I start getting use to a phase, she changes. I have to say that over the past month, Mellany has made some pretty big changes. She has become way more interactive and is developing her personality on a daily basis. It is really just so fun to watch. Here's what's been happening over the past month:
  • She's eating about 6 ounces every 3-4 hours. And we've started giving her some rice cereal (1 1/2T at night). Since giving her the rice cereal, we've been able to really have a consistent routine/schedule. We had one before, but adding in the rice cereal has really solidified it.
  • Her wardrobe has really expanded because she's now fitting into 0-3 month, 3 month, 3-6 month and 6 month clothes. There is even one or two 9 month pieces that she can wear. She doesn't fill them out width-wise, but is definitely filling them out length-wise. She's growing so fast, I'm hoping I'm able to get her into all her clothes before she outgrows them.
  • Mellany has developed a fake cough. She "coughs" if she wants more attention....it's pretty funny and cute. What's even better is that my mom said I had this too; and that it only got worse as I got older and then eventually just stopped.
  • About halfway through her 4th month, Mellany started rolling up on her side. Then about a week before her 5th month birthday, she actually rolled from her back to her belly. Of course mom missed it because I had gone to let Bo outside and threw him his duck a few times. When I came back in, she was on her belly.....I was so happy!
  • Her new "friend" is her pink horse blanket buddy and she is starting to love teething rings. She also loves her snail mirror that she got for Christmas. It plays music when you move it and she really likes looking at herself in the mirror.
  • She is talking A LOT. She's really found her voice and will talk, gurgle, scream, etc. any chance she gets.
  • Her feet have been found and she loves chewing on them and grabbing them
  • Smiling and laughing are constant and we will do just about anything (including acting like a complete idiot) to get her to do one of them
  • Mellany can reach out and grasp things--blankets, toys, burp cloths, etc.
  • She loves to grab our mouth when we talk to her. She just loves it. She literally reaches out her hand and grabs a hold of our lips....it's so cute. Sometimes we even get a laugh if we say "ummmmmm".....I think the vibration is funny to her.
  • She loves to talk in a whisper
  • She absolutely loves going to the kid care at the gym. She loves interacting with the bigger kids and "talks" to them a lot! Some days she gets really upset because she can't get down on the floor with them and play. I'm sure this will come sooner rather than later though.
  • Most of the time she would rather be sitting than laying down; though she still can't quite sit on her own--she's pretty close. She's really starting to get some great leg muscle and likes standing in your lap.
  • She loves to stare at us while we eat; she's very interested in adult food and would eat right along with us if we let her. I think that as soon as the doctor gives us the "go ahead", she'll bea eating puree fruits and veggies.
  • She is loving the phone and computer. Trying to grab at both....{She really is all girl!}
  • When we zip up her clothes (footed PJ's especially) she just loves it; she gets a huge grin on her face
  • She is beginning to realize cause and effect
  • Mellany and Bo are now becoming good friends. She intently watches his every move and even sticks her hands out to "pet" him when he walks by. When she does see him, she smiles so big! It's adorable!
  • She loves to be "thrown" in the air (especially by Daddy)
  • Bath time is super fun! She's started to splash around and get dad nice and soaked.
  • When she sleeps she is a wild child. The girl moves all over the bed. It is very rare that she is in the same position when we get her out of bed, as she was when we put her in bed.
  • EC is still going great and "going" on the potty is pretty consistent. She really doesn't like wet/dirty diapers at all; which is a huge change from before EC because she didn't mind them at all.
We are truly blessed having such an amazingly healthy little lady. She's growing like a weed (though still pretty petite) and is perfectly healthy and almost always happy! She's such a content baby who loves to "study" things. We just love our Mellany!

5 Month Photo Shoot
{Yes, I know I only need to add a couple, but I just couldn't resist adding them all...}

I also wanted to add these 2 pictures....the top one is the first time that she rolled from back to belly on her own (and I missed it) and the bottom one is just so cute of her trying to roll over again.

4 Months Old!

Our baby girl is now 4 months old. We can easily say that this has been the best 4 months of our lives! Here's what has happened with Mellany over the 4th month of her life.....

  • She is eating about 5 ounces every 3-4 hours
  • Mellany weighs in at a whopping 12.2lbs (10th Percentile) She's making her own curve!
  • Her length measures in at 24.5 inches (50th Percentile) and her head measurement is in the 60th percentile.
  • Clothing sizes: 0-3 month and 3 month....there are a couple of 3-6 month outfits that kinda fit
  • We are still having some spit-up but no more vomiting thank goodness!
  • She has rolled over from her belly to back via the right side
  • Mellany has started laughing and it is super cute.
  • Her smiles are becoming more and more
  • Mellany is talking more and more often and is really starting to respond to questions and statements that you ask her.
  • She is totally in love with her daddy; When he comes home, all is right with the world! He's the one that can really get her to laughing!
  • We've started to have a bedtime routine and it is working really great (the girl loves to sleep); she's still sleeping in her own bed and it's really been a nice transition.
  • She is sleeping through the night most nights; occasionally getting up around 2:30/3:00 to eat.
  • Mellany is really starting to enjoy toys such as rattles and stuffed animals.
  • She is constantly eating her hands....constantly! She's also eating just about anything she can get to her mouth.
  • Her feet have been discovered and she loves getting a hold of them.
  • She's getting some social interaction with "big kids" at the gym I joined recently and she just loves them. (And they love her.) When I come in from working out, I usually find her being held by the workers, facing the kiddos and just "talking" away with a huge smile on her face.
  • She loves sitting at the table with us and watching us eat--we're thinking rice cereal might be a good start soon.
  • Her hair is starting to grow which is causing some of her longer hairs to stick out.
  • We've put her in the activity jumper a few times and even though her arms can't quite reach all the toys and her feet can't touch the ground, she seems to enjoy it.
  • Elimination communication has become very successful for us and has helped us bond even more with her. She has peed and pooped on the potty too many times to count!
  • Head control has greatly improved and we think she'll have full torso control any day. She sits great in the bumbo, just doesn't quite have the ability to sit on the floor without assistance yet.

She received her 4 month "round" of immunizations on February 7th and took them like a champ. She really is such a trooper, but man, they are still exhausting! She was a little fussy in the afternoon, but after giving her some tylenol to help, she was her normal self by the evening.

4 month photo shoot....(thanks Aunt Sam for the bow/wrap.....it's ADORABLE!)
