{{Somewhat}} Wordless Tuesday!

It's been nice and calm in the Barrett home over the last couple of weeks. Just normal daily activities with a very relaxing mother's day weekend to top it off. We're getting ready for a family trip to Texas for my cousin Wayne's wedding so we have been packing and prepping like crazy today. Other than that, here's what we've been up to.....

All I needed to do was get ready to take Mellany to gymnastics.....this mess took all of 5 minutes (or less)

....and then AT gymnastics, Johnny decided to open the cheerios on his own....

....then later that same day, this happened! Little guy climbed two stairs like he had done it several times before....

Taking in some sun and a little splashing in the water

Johnny got a haircut!!!

Daddy/Daughter date to the mall. Always includes jumping and pretzels :)

Playtime!

After church snapshots

Picture sent to daddy showing him how excited we are that it is almost time for him to come home

Johnny's introduction to the cozy coupe!

Mellany could do just about anything and Johnny would roll with laughter. These two videos are two of my absolute favorites!

Last day of preschool

Somehow, today was Mellany's last day of her first year of preschool.! She is just growing up so quickly on us! Because we will be missing the Jump Start graduation program, I was able to get a practice preview today. Mellany was super excited to have me in her classroom and did such a great job "performing" the dinosaur song with her classmates. A snapshot with the teachers and a few hugs and that concludes her first year. Her teachers were incredible, the two other teachers in the program were incredible and Mellany already can't wait to go back next fall.

5K #4: Run for Justice

I did it!! I ran 5K #4 at 11 months post baby Johnny. My official time was 35:17. I ran the whole thing (which is always goal #1) and for that I am proud of myself.

This run was pretty special as it was a run hosted by our church for the International Justice Mission (IJM). It was called "Run for Justice" and the money goes to help free those who are in modern day slavery. It is such a GREAT cause and for that I was even more proud to run in the 5K. When you checked in for the race, you had the option of writing someone's name on your arm, leg, number, etc. This person is someone who has been freed or is to be freed through IJM. This was a great reminder for me during the race, to really focus on the reason I was running.

The day of the race was cold and rainy and I debated wether or not to even run because I had been sick the previous week. The night before the race an email was sent out that became very convicting to me. The email discussed what kinds of conditions the people that we are running for, are in, and that a little rain and cold weather shouldn't stop us from helping others. I mean, you can't argue that! And I couldn't have been more happy to run it. The rain actually held off until right after (literally 30 seconds) I finished the race. This is definitely one of those races I will run year after year for as long as we live here.

Johnny's Ear Tubes

Because of recurrent ear infections and constant fluid in his ears, it was recommended that we have tubes put into Johnny's ears. While putting our baby in surgery is really the last thing we wanted to do, we knew it was the best decision. Last Thursday, he and I arrived at the surgery center at 6:45am to check in and then had the surgery around 7:45. 15 minutes later the doctor was back in telling me that everything went great, that he indeed did have a lot of fluid in his ears and the nurse would come and get me in a few minutes! I couldn't believe how quick it was!! It took longer to check in than it did for the doctor to do the actual surgery. After about 30 minutes or so in the recovery room, we were able to go home. Johnny slept a good portion of the morning but then was ready to go after that. He hasn't had any problems since and seems to be hearing even better. We go back for a follow up next week. Hopefully all the ear infections are a thing of the past!

I was able to snap a few shots during the morning to help remember the day.

Johnny was a little thrown off by the hospital band on his ankle but he was so happy despite not having been able to eat since the night before.

Dressed in our gown and waiting on the dr. I thought I might lose it when the nurse came to take him from me. Luckily I was able to keep myself together, but man that was tough on this mama! John was planning on coming to the surgery center after dropping Mellany off at preschool, but the surgery was finished and we were in recovery by that time almost ready to head home.

In recovery, doing what he does best....eating and checking everything out.

We are very thankful for a successful surgery and God watching over our little man, the incredible staff at the surgery center that were so helpful and the support of our family and friends. This is one of those times when living far away isn't the greatest but thanks to technology it makes us seem a little closer!

{{Somewhat}} Wordless Monday!

It is officially spring in Indiana!!! The hats, gloves and coats have been put away and we've taken out the sandals and jackets. We are out and about and enjoying our time outside! I'm really crossing my fingers that the weather stays like this for a long time before it turns really hot. Anyone who knows me, knows that the heat and I don't do well together. Until then, we will be exploring parks and playing on the swingset, drawing with sidewalk chalk, blowing bubbles, jumping on the trampoline and breaking in our new sand and water table.

Here's what we've been up to!

I was able to get a few pictures of Mellany at preschool over the past couple of weeks. She is LOVING her preschool and even though she won't always tell me about what she does, I know she looks forward to going. She has two incredible teachers and has made lots of friends.

While taking Johnny's 11 month pictures, Mellany wanted to play in the pack-n-play. I know I say this with every post, but she is just so naturally beautiful!!!

Wines on the Wabash Fundraiser with the Gores and our "winnings". I won some sunglasses at the silent auction and they won some golfing and a Keurig.

Mellany practicing her "shooting" skills with the mop and her "mean face". Proud daddy moment.

Enjoying a pretzel at the mall with mama

Playing outside during Johnny's naptime....bubbles and mulch for everyone!

We made a trip (or two) to the greenhouse this past weekend to get some new flowers and shrubs for our flower beds. The weather was so perfect and the kids really enjoyed it; until Johnny got tired and Mellany was told to stop splashing in the water.....then the fun was over and it was time to go home.

There's something about crawling into the mud room and playing with shoes

Little man is getting braver every day. This was from a couple weeks ago at gymnastics...he just climbed right up and over the step like he had been doing it for weeks.

HAPPY MONDAY!
