Dear Winter, We're Over!

We are currently in another round of sickness and to say that I am ready for warmer weather is an understatement. John has been traveling a ton also, which is never fun either. We've got so many fun spring and summer things lined up that we are really struggling to be in this colder weather and cooped up inside. We are ready for school to be finished and to have all the freedom of late nights, playing outside and spontaneous fun! (These next couple months are sure to be a struggle if it doesn't stay on the warmer side!)

Here's what we've been up to in the last month or so....(gosh, it is so hard to think that I would post something every week; how did I ever have the time?!)

Mellany and her besties celebrated another birthday with a sleepover. This friend is a huge Taylor Swift fan so Mellany made her an extra special card.....I just love Mellany's artistic ability (also am a bit envious!)

Johnny was home from school sick one day and I was upstairs finishing some laundry. When I came back downstairs I noticed he was taking Winston outside.....I guess it's hard to keep an animal lover indoors when his furry friend is begging him to go out.

Towards the end of January the boys started working on their Pinewood Derby cars for Cub Scouts. Each of the boys had a vision and John helped them bring it to life.

Johnny was part of the school's Battle of the Books and his team did an amazing job answering questions about the books they read. Johnny is already thinking about next year.

Johnny's teacher reached out to me about a day she was going to be absent from school and needed a sub; and I was so ecstatic that I was available! It just happened to be the Friday before Super Bowl so I was sure to wear my Mahomes jersey. It was such a great day getting to be in the classroom with my sweet boy.

Dance competition season is in full force and I love it! It makes for long days but to watch Mellany (and even the boys too!) do what she loves brings me so much happiness! Her team is absolutely killing it this year!

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! While we were hoping for a 3-peat that didn't end up happening, we still had a great day celebrating our favorite football team. Charlie's bestie is a converted Chiefs fan so the morning at church was super fun for them. We were the only ones in church dressed in Chiefs red-you could see us coming from a mile away.. haha!

Trying everything we could to do our part to bring home a "W" and it was so sad to see our team lose. Charlie was very upset and even ended up in tears at one point.

Johnny's school "Bottle Buddy" Project. He chose to do a report on Patrick Mahomes and then had to create him out of a pop bottle. I would say it turned out amazing! He did such a good job and was so creative! And, he was so proud carrying it into school.

Another one bites the dust.....Mellany was down with influenza for 4 days at the beginning of February. Our girl is never sick so when she wasn't getting out of bed, I knew it was bad. Thankfully I was able to get her to the dr in time for Tamiflu and that helped so much. (What would we do without our pup who snuggles when we're "down"?)

For Valentine's Day, John and I took the kids to do one of our most favorite things to do ever-dinner and a movie! We watched Dog Man (the kids all love the books!) and then headed to Applebee's for dinner. The only one that wanted a pic with Dog Man was Charlie. :( My babies are growing up too fast!

Always finding Charlie selfies on my camera roll....he's notorious for sneaking my phone and snapping some pics :) I think in these he was trying to be sure to document his face tattoo.

Armed and ready for dad to enter the door......there's a nerf machine gun hiding under that blanket ready for a sneak attack.

Another Saturday, another dance competition! This particular competition was regionals where the girls qualified for STATE!

Winston had an official grooming appointment and I was so happy with how he turned out! He looks amazing! I don't know that he loved it, but I also don't feel like he hated it.

A little pre-derby practice.....

...and then the official Pinewood Derby!

The boys ended up doing really well with their cars! Their weeks and weeks of hard work definitely paid off. Charlie placed first in his den and first overall and Johnny placed 2nd in his den and 3rd overall. The boys were ecstatic to say the least!

It was a packed weekend, because the day after the Pinewood Derby was State Dance Competition. Mellany and I stayed in a hotel in Indianapolis the night before because she had a 7am call time (which means dressed and ready to go!). This team performed amazing and left it all on the floor with both dances. They took home 2nd place for their hip hop routine and 4th place for their pom routine which is the highest that Battle Ground Middle School has ever placed. We are so incredibly proud of them!!!

(Thankful for nintendo switch entertainment during the 4 hour wait between dances)

Mellany was one of the team captains this season so she was able to accept the awards.

One perk of subbing in my kids schools is seeing things like artwork on display....

It was above freezing and the boys were having the best time outside! You can see one in the tree and one on his way to the swingset.....makes my heart so happy!

Another one down for the count! Charlie has really struggled with some tummy issues lately and will hopefully either go away or we will figure out quickly!

Only 13 days till spring break!!!!
