Here's what's been happening:
- Mellany is eating about 6 ounces every 3 hours and about 2 1/2-3 T of cereal at night.
- The girl is growing so quickly in length and is now fitting into mostly 3-6 and 6-9 month clothes...even some 9 month clothes. Brands are really starting to become important when buying/shopping for her. It seems like she wears a different size for each different brand.
- She loves to sit-up as much as possible and is even starting to pull herself up when she sits in our lap.
- Standing is becoming one of her new favorite things....assisted of course
- Mellany is constantly rolling over....and sometimes, multiple times in a row!
- Her smile and laugh are becoming more and more powerful :-)
- Mellany is becoming more vocal and sometimes will just scream, probably because she can.
- She is a people person. She does not like to sit, she wants to be up and moving around so that she knows what is going on at all times. She must be "in the know"! (She's also a flirt! That girl will smile at just about any man that she sees.)
- Sometimes, she just wants to scream (in a good way) and we love it!
- Her hand-eye coordination is beginning to really develop. If she sees something that she wants, she can easily reach out and grab for it and usually bring it to her mouth lol.
- She loves the Jenny Jump-Up, her walker and Jumper/Entertainer. The swing is amazing for those times when she won't calm down (which is very rare, because she is almost always happy--except when the razors are coming in...I mean, teeth) and for those times that she needs to sleep but is really fighting it, which she loves to do!
- Mellany has become a very heavy wetter, which is making cloth diapering a bit of a challenge for us.
- We've begun feeding her cereal with a spoon and she wasn't sure what to think at first. Definitely wanted the bottle instead. But over time and with consistency, she has really started to get the hang of it.
- She's found a new friend, "Sophie" the Giraffe. Sophie is a fun, squeaky toy and is made for teething. And she LOVES her! She loves the squeak and the fact that she can actually hold it in her hands and put it to her mouth and chew.
- On the "Sophie" note; teething has really started--thank goodness for baby tylenol and orajel! Because of her teething, she got a terrible cold (cough, runny/stuffy nose....awful!)
- Mellany LOVE LOVE LOVES "dancing" with her daddy.
- She is a studier....she can concentrate on things for quite a while and really likes to watch everything that is going on around her
- She really doesn't mind riding in a car. She is actually starting to look around and play more.
- The girl is really starting to love on her "Bo-Bo". She enjoys petting him and watching him walk around the house. She gets really excited when he's playing
- Her feet are at her mouth whenever she finds it possible
- She really loves music--just about any genre
- She loves to feel textures of everything
- When she gets really excited, her legs shoot straight into the air and her toes curl
- She loves mirrors
- Mom's hair is very interesting and she loves to play with it; even the smallest strand is interesting to her
We are truly lucky to have such an amazing, sweet, little lady in our lives. We constantly get comments on how adorable and well-manered she is; that makes for one proud momma and daddy!
6 Month Well-Baby Check-Up
Mellany is weighing in at a whopping 14lbs 9oz and 25 1/2 inches long. This is about 2 pounds and 2 inches longer than her 4 month check-up. She's definitely growing. She received 2 injections today and her last dose of rotavirus vaccine that has to be swallowed; and again she made momma so proud! She took the drink down with no problem and then cried pretty hard for about 30 seconds with her shots and we were on our way. The dr said that she is looking, growing and developing great and that we could start feeding her some puree'd veggies. We are definitely excited for the food phase!
6 Month Photo Shoot
And lastly....Mellany wanted to have cupcakes from a place we haven't tried yet in Kearney, called Outrageous Cupcakes, to celebrate her half birthday. What kind of mother would I be if I didn't agree to that?! So, we got 2 dirt 'n' worms, a red velvet and a peanut butter. It broke my heart that Mellany fell asleep before we dug into them.....oh well, maybe next year ;-) Johnny and I VERY much enjoyed the dirt 'n' worms....the other 2 will get eaten tonight but I'm sure they will be just as yummy!
