Here's a little bit about our sweet baby this month:
- He can hold his head up pretty much full time
- Falling asleep is quite the event for him....he makes lots of grunts and groans, and tosses and turns quite a bit, before finally drifting off
- His smile is the absolute sweetest smile! And his laugh is even better! We will try just about anything to get him to do either....and it doesn't take much for him to do it. He is sooo happy all of the time.
- He's wearing mostly 3 month and 3-6 month clothes and size 1 diapers
- He really does not like to lay flat or on his tummy
- He loves to snuggle! And mama and daddy love it too!
- When he sleeps he likes to have a blanket covering his eyes
- He can easily put his feet in his mouth
- Talking is a favorite of his....he can go on and on; and he loves when you talk with him
- The TV catches his attention....Mickey and Little Einsteins seems to catch it the most
Sleeping:
He still sleeps really well....too good really because we are still having to wake him up at night to eat. After he eats during the day, he will stay awake to play and then sleep for about an hour to an hour and a half. At night he will take his last bottle around 7:00/8:00 and then not wake up until about 7:00 in the morning (hence the reason the dr wants us to wake him....mama isn't a fan, but I'll do what I need to in order for him to gain weight.)!!!
Eating Habits/New Foods:
He just recently went from eating 4 ounces at every feeding to 5 or 6 every 3-4 hours. We will burp him about every two ounces and he really doesn't like to stop eating at all. We've started adding rice cereal to his bottle (1-1 1/2 tsp) to help with his acid reflux. The cereal does seem to be helping some, but I think its still pretty painful for him. He still spits up here and there (even less now that he is getting some cereal) and occasionally has one of his spitting up/coughing/choking fits. Hopefully in time the cereal will eliminate his reflux issues and we won't have to convert to medicine.
New Discoveries:
Music. He loves it! It helps to calm him if he starts to get fussy and really I think he even likes to have it just for background noise. What is especially cute is when he is in his swing and sister turns the music on and dances! He watches her so intently.
Accomplishments:
Reaching for objects. If he sees something he likes (toy, mobile, mama's hand....) he now reaches out and grabs for it. Its so cute to watch!
Places:
We've been even more low key than we were at his 3 months....just going to the gym and gymnastics, target and the grocery store and dropping off and picking up Mellany at preschool.
Special Memories:
It's small, but some of my most special memories from this age are falling asleep with Johnny and seeing John fall asleep with him on his chest too. I feel like at this age, we have become more comfortable with him falling asleep on us and it is truly such a bonding experience for me. (Some of the best naps I've had are with him asleep on my chest.)
4 Month Dr Appointment (October 17, 2014)
Weight: 12# 13oz
Length: 25 1/4 in
Johnny had the absolute best wellness exam to date!!!! (Hallelujah!!!!!!!) His weight gain was fantastic, his length is great, his head circumference was perfect and his developmental skills completely shocked Dr. Fahler!!!! This mama (and daddy) is on cloud 9! Dr. Fahler couldn't have been more happy with his progress and was extremely impressed with what Johnny could do physically since he was a little slow in the weight gain area. Johnny had to get a few immunizations at this appointment and took them like a champ. His legs bothered him a little bit in the afternoon but a little tylenol made that go away. It looks like we can just keep doing what we are doing (no more nightly feedings unless he hasn't eaten much during the day) and we go back in 2 months!!!!! I'm pretty sure Dr. Fahler is going to miss seeing us so much! We really could not be more thankful for the progress that Johnny has made and are still praying that he (in the words of Dr. Fahler) continues to accelerate!!!!
