Charlie: 9 Months

I feel like it is safe to say we no longer have an "infant". This little boy is constantly on the move and is enjoying his first tastes of freedom. He loves to "talk" with anyone who will listen and just really enjoys being around people and being the center of attention.

Here's a little bit about Charlie this month:
  • Cords are his favorite item to crawl after! He can spot one from across the room
  • He recognizes his name
  • He is developing quite the temper. If he is not enjoying what he's doing, he really lets you know.
  • He is wearing size 3 diapers and12 month &12-18 month clothes.
  • He's not really a fan of the floor mat or swing anymore as well as the bouncy seat or the stationary bouncer. He really only likes being in the high chair to eat, in the walker to go where he pleases or on the floor to crawl all over.
  • He is always trying to touch my glasses when I'm wearing them.
  • Lately, every single time I put him in the car seat and the stroller he gets mad. Once we start moving he stops crying but until that point, he is not a happy camper.
  • He always knows where Mellany and Johnny are and is constantly watching what they do. Lately he has even mimicked some of their "actions"....like slapping his hands on the table.
  • We are STILL waiting on teeth to come in. We have been taking ibuprofen on the regular for several days now and I swear I can see them coming to the surface. He is chewing on everything and drooling even more than he was so hopefully they will come through soon!
  • He puts everything in his mouth.
  • He sleeps with his mouth wide open
  • He can basically sit unassisted at this point
  • Toys that play music and light up are his favorite. I would say that his absolute favorite toy is Sophie the giraffe, the banana teether, and the telephone that he pulls off of the walking toy we have, oh plus a light up wand that Mellany has let him borrow.

Sleeping:
Thankfully, the sleeping has improved!! He has had 3 nights of 11 hours of continuous sleep (hallelujah!!!!!!!). He is taking one afternoon nap from around 12:30/1:00-4:00/4:30 and then he's going back to sleep around 7:30 then hopefully not wake up till around 7. If he does wake up to eat, it is usually around midnight.

Putting him to sleep is quite the routine. He will have his bottle, then he burps, you take him to his room and turn on his fan. Then you bounce up and down (like full-on squat) and he does this "uhhhh" sound until he falls asleep. Once he is asleep (and you have to make sure he's good and asleep or you will have to start all over....) you lay him down in his bed, on his belly with his body half on a pillow-half off. I turn on the angel monitor and RUN! (haha!...but seriously!)

Eating Habits/New Foods:
Bottles: 4 ounces every 3 hours with 2T of oatmeal.....I've still tried to give him 6 ounces a couple of times but it all comes back up.

New Foods!!: Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Bananas, Pears. Because of the traumatizing stomach issues from last month, we are going extremely slow when introducing new foods. This way, if something happens, I know exactly what is causing the issue. He absolutely loves puffs and mum-mums and I would say that applesauce is his favorite food.

Charlie is still spitting up formula and baby food as well as just acidic saliva.....the reflux continues. He also gets pretty gassy when we introduce a new food and the spit-up increases some.

New Discoveries:
The walker! He has gotten a HUGE sense of freedom between army crawling and using the walker. Little man is super fast in the walker and will follow everyone around the house, playing with his toys and grabbing my dish towels along the way.

Accomplishments:
*Ma-ma: It was only one time, but he said it!!
*Waving: He has done this twice and it is soooooo stinking cute how he does it!

Places:
Mellany & Johnny's preschool, Mellany's ballet, church, strawberry orchard, Dogs N Suds, the park, Meijer, Kids Club at the gym, the bank, Johnny's soccer practice, daddy's office

Special Memories:
Strawberry picking was a special one for sure. Picking strawberries is one of my favorite things to do in the spring and even though Charlie was only happy for about 10 minutes of the 2 hours we were there, it was still a special memory for me.

9 Month Dr. Visit
Length: 28.5"
Weight: 19# 0.5oz
Head Circumference: 48cm

We had a pretty great appointment with Dr. Fahler. We discussed gross and fine motor skills, communication skills, his general growth and development (which is great), eating, spitting up/burping/gas/reflux, ears (we've possibly got an ENT visit in our future depending on where the fluid in his ear "decides to go"), bumps on his legs (a possible allergist appointment in our future as well) and we spent a lot of time discussing the birth mark on his arm. Dr. Fahler was actually pretty concerned about it and would like to expedite our dermatologist visit if possible. He's mostly concerned about the coloring difference between both arms and just wants to ensure that the birth mark isn't restricting blood flow. After his physical exam and taking some pictures of his arm to send to the dermatologist, I set up Charlie's 1 year appointment (SAY WHAT?!?!) and we walked out of the office.....YAYYYY for no shots!
