It came and went, and just like that, Christmas 2019 is in the books! It was the best one yet with some of the best memories made! We went on a hike with Nana (yes, in December!), played lots of games at Gammy's, and made our own pizzas and cookies at Papa & Teresa's.....just to name a few. Now that we are back home finishing up unpacking and relaxing for our last few days of break, most of our stories are revolving around the "high" that was Christmas. We love all the time with our family and catching up with old friends so much and always hate to see it end. Definitely one of the most bittersweet things about living far away.
Here is the Barrett Christmas (or at least most of it) in pictures!
We wrote letters to Santa before leaving for KC. Charlie drew a picture of what he wanted, Johnny drew a picture and wrote his name and Mellany wrote a full-on letter.
John fixing Charlie's crane truck with his new lighted gloves I got him. He kind of chuckled when he opened them up but during this situation they came in super handy!
We are off!!!! All 5 of us, plus Winston, in John's truck, pulling a trailer in order to bring some large items back home. Definitely tight quarters but everyone did really well!
Over the past few months Winston has started getting car sick. He starts drooling really bad and then eventually throws up and you can just see in his eyes that he's miserable. I've tried dramamine but that didn't really help and it gave him diarrhea. I also purchased some puppy pads which definitely helped (I could easily replace them once they were soaked from drooling and/or vomit)! Thankfully on the way to KC he only threw up once and on the way back he only threw up twice! Once he threw up, you could tell he felt better and just slept the majority of the way.
Double fisting pepsi :)
Comfort at it's finest
....Everything was going so smooth and we were making great time.....and then a tire blew out on the trailer we were pulling. I happened to look at the trailer in the side mirror and noticed the tire, so John pulled off the highway right away. We were about an hour from home at this point. We called for roadside assistance and after waiting a couple hours we decided to pull into a concrete business parking lot and take care of the tire issue ourself. Luckily my mom was only about 45 minutes away and came to our rescue. She brought us a trailer ball lock and sat with the kids and I, while John ran to get a few more items. Once he got back, she and I went to Pizza Hut to eat because everyone was starving. By that point the kids were getting delirious but everyone was still in really great spirits. John got the trailer all locked up and the tire pulled off and met us at Pizza Hut. 5 hours later we were back on the road and made it to Virginia's around 11:00pm central time. The next day, John was able to get all the tires replaced so that we were ready to make it back home.
Can you tell how tired the kids are? Nevermind that Charlie has on no shoes and is planking! lol....
First stop while back home was my most favorite jewelry store and Corner Cafe with my mom, Charlie, Brad & Amiee, Capri & Delaney!! This chocolate pie is hands down my favorite!
The weather was so warm that we decided to explore Nana's 80 acres!
Christmas Eve @ Nana's!
We sat out reindeer food....
....and cookies and milk for Santa
Santa Came! A John Deere Train for Johnny, a Construction Site for Charlie and an American Girl RC Car for Mellany!
Daxton got a Patrick Mahomes headband!
Christmas Day at Gammy's!!
Uncle Brad & Johnny working on Lego's
Delaney says Uncle John is her favorite!
The Day after Christmas at Papa & Teresa's! Teresa had wrapped everyone's gifts as snowmen!
Mellany is getting really good at braiding.
On the 27th, all the guys on my dad's side of the family went on their annual pheasant hunt. They got all but like 2 birds!
Making our own pizzas and cookies back at Papa & Teresa's
Girl time in Gammy's car with Capri after eating dinner at Stroud's (another favorite of mine!) with my Grandpa Hinshaw.
This was the day before we left, Winston was exhausted! lol
Headed home!!! Thankfully with no tire issues this time. :)
Cheers to another great Christmas! We are beyond blessed and so thankful to have such an incredible family!
