Life Lately

Our life lately has been a complete whirlwind and I'm not really even sure where to start. With the move, closing on our new home, selling our old home, baby Mellany on the way, packing, unpacking, staying in a hotel, etc etc. our life is starting to finally come back to normal.

Allied packers and movers came to our home in IN on May 25th and 26th. Johnny stayed with them while they packed up literally everything we owned and loaded it in the semi to be transported to a distribution center (from the distribution center it goes back onto a semi to be transported to the location--too many hands to go through if you ask me, but I'm not a mover). While this happened I finished up my last 2 days of teaching. We planned to head out to KC on the 27th but because we still had quite a bit to do, we decided to rough it on an air mattress another night and leave on Saturday. We are so glad we did because we were able to spend some more time with friends having dinner and seeing a brand new baby as well as run some errands that needed to be done!

One of the errands I ran.....we received a gift from Johnny's assistant that was a boy outfit and a girl outfit. Once we found out we were having a girl, I decided that while Johnny was at work on Friday, I would quickly run to exchange the boy outfit. Of course, I couldn't leave without taking advantage of the Memorial Day sales!

On Saturday morning we left Evansville and drove to KC for the holiday weekend. It was a really nice time and we were anxiously counting down the time to move into our new home (living out of a truck for a few days is not for me!). Monday came and we left KC for our new home in Kearney, NE. We booked a hotel via priceline over the weekend (LOVE naming our own price) and settled in at a decent time that night. Mother nature decided to welcome us to Kearney by throwing in a severe thunderstorm/tornado. While we didn't feel it was necessary to head to the auditorium in the hotel that was one of the shelters, we kept a close eye on the storm and were prepared to take cover in the bathroom if need be. Luckily it didn't come to that.

Tuesday morning we were set and ready for the final walk through of our home in the morning and closing in the afternoon. The walk through went great and we even got to meet one of our neighbors who is part of the building company that built our home-how nice! Since we had to check out of the hotel already we thought we would run some errands to get things like paint, until the afternoon closing. This is where the drama begins. After the walk through, we found out that our lender hadn't given the title company some necessary information and they were still working on a final number for us to put in escrow since the sod and fence were not complete. So the phone calls between the lender, title company, realtor and us, began. Needless to say, about 3:00 that afternoon, we found out we weren't closing and that we needed to have certified funds at closing (this makes it difficult because we had no idea about this and our main bank is in EVANSVILLE!). That sent this pregnant, tired woman into tears. At this point I am DONE with living out of a suitcase, DONE with having my things packed into a truck and DONE with eating out. I am so thankful for my husband who helped me realize it wasn't the end of the world and that one more day isn't a big deal--funny how things can get so blown out of proportion while pregnant. Anyway, we called Virginia to help us book another night in a hotel via priceline.com. Luckily Johnny hadn't closed his bank account he had the last time he lived in NE so we headed there to see what we needed to do in order to wire funds for closing. The lady gave us the information we needed and then proceeded to tell us of our recent charges to that account. We are so glad she did because Sirius XM had charged that account over $200 that was not authorized by either of us! (Just to add one more thing to the list.) So, we made an angry phone call to siriusXM to get it fixed; and after about 30 minutes, we did. Then we called our Evansville bank to see about wiring money out of our account to the title company-success.....we just needed to call in the morning with a final number. We also had to make a phone call to our realtor and moving company because the movers were scheduled to be at the new home the following morning to unload our things. If we would not be able to hold the semi from coming or unload into our house before closing, we would have a very serious problem. THANKFULLY, the seller agreed to let us move our things into the home. At the end of a VERY long day, we were eager to get some rest and relax. Johnny was able to get a little work done and I caught up on some very much needed rest.

On Wednesday morning we met our realtor at our house and the movers came shortly after. They unloaded the semi-truck box by box and I felt like an air traffic controller telling them where everything went. We finally got the call that said we were good to go and were scheduled to close at 3:45. Luckily we went ahead and wired the money because our lender still couldn't give us a final number. We wired too much and let the title company cut us a check--just to make sure we had enough. Finally, some RELIEF. Once the movers left and closing was over it was time to unpack. This is a process that is still taking place, but at least we are sleeping in our own bed in our own home.

I didn't really think that our stuff would need to be put in a semi-truck, but we filled it up!

Thursday, Friday and Saturday were spent unpacking and organizing, getting a new cell phone for me, setting up cable and internet, installing our mailbox, doing laundry, and heading to the grocery store as well as having some of our friends over for dinner. Once Saturday night came, we were completely exhausted with all things unpacking so we decided to see Hangover 2. While we weren't real impressed with the movie, it was definitely nice to get out of the house and go on a late-night date. We spent Sunday resting, catching up with work and creating a list of things still left to do.

So, if you are wondering how things went with the move or why you haven't heard from us, there you go.........things have literally been INSANE. I'm really excited to be settled in, catch up on emails and "everyday tasks" and make phone calls to catch up with friends. Johnny officially starts his first day at the office today and I'm at the house cleaning some things up, sitting while the alarm system company installs our system and catch up with the wonderful tasks of balancing our checkbook, changing our address and eventually more unpacking. Let the nesting begin!

I do want to add that even with all the chaos and insanity we are very thankful for our amazing realtor, Allied moving, the title company and our lender for all working so hard to get us into this house in a 2 1/2 week timeframe. Looking at a house, making an offer and buying it all in 2 1/2 weeks is pretty tight, but we did it! And we are so glad!

Overall, we are loving Kearney and can't wait to explore the city!

  1. Oh, my goodness, girl. This sounds like one of our situations, or actually all of our moving situations. Ha! I'm glad you are in your house and are feeling happy. And if it makes you feel any better about your "living-out-of-a-suitcase" situation, we were at the Holiday Inn in Evansville for THREE MONTHS while our house was being finished and I was also pregnant... not fun, but adds character to your life, I suppose, and in the weeks/months to come you will forget about it and then the next time you move you might do it again b/c you forgot how tough it was. :) You've learned a lot through your first corporate move, for sure. :) Love those little girl clothes and am so excited for you and Johnny! Take care of yourself and try to relax! :)
